Nylon
Wallace Carothers is the director of the American company called DuPont Corporation, which invented nylon in 1935. He had studied chemistry at university, specialising in polymers which are molecules composed of long chains of atoms. The properties of nylon are made out of strong but fine synthetic fibres. This was first mass produced in 1939. This material can be used to make various other items such as stockings, toothbrushes, parachutes, fishing lines and surgical threads.
